Gus's was our last stop in Memphis, TN and our last vacation restaurant. We originally saw Gus's on Man vs Food, but it has been featured on several other food TV shows. It was also seen on Rachel Ray - $40 a day and Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate. We figured that it wouldn't hurt to give them a try and I am happy to say that we weren't disappointed at all.

The restaurant isn't fancy at all. Actually it looks like crap inside and out. You would think with the name Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken that it would have a better location and look, but I suppose they figured why change what works. Don't expect to come here and see a menu with anything other than chicken either. Don't expect macaroni & cheese, greens, or anything thing like that. Gus's menu is straight and to the point. Nothing fancy at all.

For an appetizer, we selected their Fried Green Tomatoes. The portion was small for a $5 price, but they arrived at our table very hot and were delicious. Perfectly seasoned. They were so good that even my picky 3 year old enjoyed them. The boys had hot dogs with great fries. In my opinion they were better than McDonald's use to be. The hot dogs are fried which sort of creeped the boys out, but they ended up liking it.

When it comes the chicken and cole slaw they were absolutely delicious. They only serve chicken with spice. Not to hot, but with the perfect kick. The skin it crispy and the chicken juicy. It was the best chicken that I have had in a very long time. The cole slaw was just the way I like it with little sweetness and dressing. It was perfectly seasoned too.

The only downside to this place was the service. I suppose because it was so packed our waitress couldn't keep up. It took about 5-10 minutes before she even came to our table to introduce herself. Took here several minutes to bring drinks, take our order, and even bring us ketchup. She was very nice, however, so we aren't going to hold it against them.

My suggestion for you is to make sure you try Gus's if your ever in Memphis, TN. It might be a little tricky trying to find it via GPS, but when you do I doubt that you will be disappointed. This place is highly recommended.
